Palmistry, also known as Palm Reading or Chirology, is the comprehensive study of the palm-prints for reading a person’s character, past and future.  It involves the reading of not only the ascending and descending lines on the palm, but the shape and flexibility of the fingers, nails, hands and mounts. The colour and texture of the skin over the palm area and fingernails are considered, as is the relative size of the palm to fingers and the prominence of the knuckles, as well as hair growth and its consistency on the hands.

The hand a person writes with, (dominant hand), shows current and future trends, while the other hand shows a person’s childhood, past life and karmic information as well as hereditary traits.  The hand shape is categorized into 4 different types - these are Earth, Air, Water and Fire.

Medical researchers studying skin patterns have discovered a link between genetic abnormalities and unusual hand markings, as well as a link between heart disease and specific fingerprint patterns.  The colour of the hands can indicate a number of health conditions including bad or sluggish circulation and high blood pressure. Rosy, pink hands is normally an indicator of good health.

Most hands have 4 Major Lines, these are the Fate Line, Life Line, Heart Line and Head Line.

The HEART LINE is the most looked at and is found on almost all hands.  It relates to matters of the heart both physical and metaphorical. It indicates emotional stability, romantic perspectives, depression and cardiac health.
The HEAD LINE relates to a persons mind and the way it works - the intellect and learning style, the communication style and whether they have a creative or analytical approach to life.
The LIFE LINE relates to a person’s vitality, physical health, any major life changes, physical injuries and relocations.  Most palm readers do not believe that the length of the life line is connected to the length of a person’s life.
The FATE LINE relates to a persons life path from schooling to career choices, success and obstacles.  It reflects circumstances beyond control, as well as a person’s choices.
 
The Simian Crease is another Major Line, it is the fusing of the heart and head lines and relates to the emotional and reasoning nature of a person.  The Upper half of the palm relates to a persons intellectual nature, while the bottom half of the palm relates to their materialistic side.  There are a number of Minor Lines such as the Sun Line, Girdle of Venus, Union Lines, Mercury Line and Travel Lines.  Other markings a Palmist will look at include stars, crosses, triangles, squares, tridents and rings under each finger. 

The Mounts on a persons hand correlate to astrological planetary influences.  The Thumb is linked to Venus, the Index Finger to Jupiter, the Middle Finger to Saturn, the Ring Finger to Appolo and the Pinky Finger to Mercury.
If we look at a person’s horoscope through Astrology we will find major similarities to that persons palm reading.  In other words Astrology and Palmistry are believed to be the same science with Astrology being the Mathematical aspect and Palmistry being the physical.
