What is a Chakra?
spiritual reality

The Chakra is a fan like energy centre that absorbs and distributes vibrant life force energy, coming from the Divine, to different areas of the physical body.  Chakra is a sanscrit word meaning wheel.  Depression or disease usually becomes evident when one or more chakra becomes blocked.  These blockages occur when someone is thinking negative or fear based thoughts.  A good sign that one or more of the chakra may be blocked is when a person is feeling sluggish or lethargic.  Cleansed, balanced chakras enable us to have clear access to our natural psychic abilities.

chakras

There are numerous minor chakra throughout the body and nine major chakra which are approximately 7-8cm in diameter. Each chakra has a specific colour and relates to certain organs of the body. The 3 lower chakra serve the body’s physical needs, while the higher chakra are associated with the spiritual realm. The major chakra of the body are:

ROOT CHAKRA - represents the earth element and innocence, is red in colour and is situated at the sacrum at the base of the spine. It governs the kidneys, adrenals, spinal column, colon, legs, bones, teeth and nails and is associated with family/tribal identity.

SACRAL CHAKRA - represents the water element and creativity, is orange in colour and is situated slightly below the navel and in a direct line with the sacrum on the spine. It is associated with survival and reproduction, personal power, creativity and relationships. It governs the ovaries, testicles, prostate, genitals, bladder, spleen and womb. It has been suggested that people who are blocked at this level may have varying degrees of arthritis.

SOLAR PLEXUS - represents the fire element and peace, is yellow in colour and is located on the spine at the level of the stomach. It's associated with the sun, with self esteem, personal identity and control issues. It governs the pancreas, adrenals, stomach, liver, gall bladder, nervous system, muscles, appendix, diaphragm, large intestine and part of the small intestine. When someone is feeling sluggish the solar plexus is blocked and therefore blocking their ability to gain nourishment from the food they eat.

HEART CHAKRA - represents the air element and love and compassion, is green in colour and is located on the spine at the level of the breastbone. It is associated with airiness, mobility, lightness, gentleness and social interaction - relationships have a major impact on this chakra. It governs the heart, thymus gland, circulatory system, arms, hands, vagus nerve and the blood. It relates to the overall health and balance of the body and spirit.  It has been noticed that blockages in this chakra have been associated with Aids sufferers.

THROAT CHAKRA - represents the akasha/ether element and communication, is blue in colour and is located on the spine at the level of the throat.  It is a vital link between thought and expression. This chakra is associated with choice, self expression, faith, communication and a sense of solitude. It governs the thyroid, parathyroid, hypothalamus, throat, bronchial and vocal apparatus and the lungs. Blockages in this chakra may result in being over-critical of others and disrespectful of others opinions. Most throat problems result from either not speaking up for oneself or having too much to say.

THIRD EYE - represents the power to materialise thought and forgiveness, it is the colour Indigo and is situated at the brow centre (centre of the forehead). It represents intuition, imagination, reason and evaluation and the power to manifest thought into material. It governs the pituitary gland, left eye, lower brain, ears, nose, mouth and nervous system. A block in this chakra has been connected to the inability to conceive a child.

CROWN CHAKRA - is violet-pearl in colour, is situated at the top of the head in alignment with the pineal gland and is associated with the integration of our spirituality. It is thought to be the gateway between the physical and nonphysical. It governs the pineal gland, the right eye and the upper brain.

SOUL CHAKRA - is transparent pearl in colour and is situated approximately 8cm above the centre of the head. It is believed to recharge the soul.

DIVINE CHAKRA - is transparent gold in colour and is situated above the soul chakra. It maintains a permanent connection from the creator to the physical creation (us). At death this chakra expands to ensure our return to the spirit world.
